Field Study
The purpose of this field study is to visit an area in nature and observe biotic and abiotic factors, organisms' relationships with each other and with the environment, and how these change over time.
Conclusion:
We did achieve our objective, we aimed to observe the biotic and abiotic factors in our sites, to gather our data and to interpret it over the course of a few weeks. This was a very interesting project, and it really showed me some insight as to what ecology is like, and if I would ever like to pursue it as a career. I enjoyed making observations and recording my data, watching how my site changed over a period of time. It demonstrated how ecosystems can be fairly dynamic and don't resist change, rather they adapt to it. I feel that the changes would have been even more dramatic had we done this study over an entire year rather than just two months, then we could see how our sites changed throughout each season and made an even more thorough log of our habitats. I also feel that writing more distinctive and specific logs and not going by the chart would have made this project more personal and more thorough, as each person might end up focusing more on specific occurrences and getting more passionate about the study. All in all though, I really enjoyed this project and it really taught me how interesting ecology can be as a field of study.
